Piece of my future
My Job Shadow Interview
Job Shadow Essay
Today, as part of my senior project, I completed my job shadow. My job shadow took place at Alicia's Beauty Salon and Nails in Lindsay CA. I had a lot of opportunities to choose other cities and interview another person but i choose to do it here in the city I was born in. Before going on to my job shadow, I expected to get a better understanding of the job I want to do later on in the future.
The person I interviewed was Alicia Soto. Alicia is the owner of the salon and a hair stylist. She runs her business 6 days out of the week. Before I went to do the interview I wasn't nervous. I had no need to be nervous because Alicia is a woman that has the exact career I want in the future . When I walked in she was working with a client. While she was working with the client her and I were talking about the college she went to and how she runs her salon. At her salon their are other employees doing the same job as her and they are also telling me stories about the start of their career. They were happy to see me interviewing for a job that makes them very satisfied. They all explained how they were all at a breaking point because they thought the cosmetology job wasn't enough, but they held on and had patience and eventually they re- thinked it and went along with what they wanted to do.
The whole time I was interviewing Alicia I was watching her do her job . In her face you can see how satisfied she is doing what she likes to do for the living . Although it must be hard to be standing up all day moving one way to another It must be fun to be doing something being done happily.
One big thing most cosmetologist have trouble with is staying in conversation with their clients. Many clients come in and they are new and it is a little hard to start a conversation with them and keep it running throughout the process of finishing the job they want done. I think my self as a very social person but sometimes It is hard for you to keep a conversation with people you don't know and try not to talk about something that can make them feel uncontrollable.
My job shadow experience was great, I believe this career fits perfectly with my personality and who I am. My qualities have shown that I prepared for this career choice. This job shadow taught me that cosmetology is not all about just having fun but it is also getting to interact with new clients and people, doing the job right and making clients satisfied and making them feel confident and beautiful and they leave. NOW I am totally inspired in creating my future with this career choice of being a hair stylist.
